Aftermath of a Rome road accident. On the busy Via del Tritone, two minutes walk from the Trevi Fountain tourist hotspot, someone tried to occupy the same point in space and time as a Rome city bus. Romebuddy arrived too late on the scene to determine the cause, but it was most likely a pedestrian carelessly crossing the road, or a moped or scooter rider doing the usual crazy thing they do here of assuming that the road laws apply to everyone else but them.
At this particular spot, buses have their own road lane, yet the position of the bus now, slewed diagonally across the entire road suggests it swerved to avoid something that wasn't supposed to be there.

It could have been you - Point of impact is marked by police with yellow circles of chalk and a blood-soaked Polaroid snapshot. It may have been nobody's fault entirely - But just be jolly careful as a pedestrian in Rome, particularly if you're from England, Australia or someplace else where you're used to traffic driving on the left, because every year in all the world's major tourist cities (not just in Rome) a number of tourists are run down in traffic simply because, by national habit, they looked the wrong way before crossing the road. So take care kiddies...

A more cheerful scene - The wonderful atmosphere on any summer evening on the Spanish Steps in the heart of old Rome. This picture says it all...
Just get on a plane and come on over here - You won't regret it.

(PS - The background wallpaper picture you can see on the right of many pages of Romebuddy website is the same scene, but photographed on a spring morning and five years later than the photo above. The Spanish Steps are always brimming with life, a popular meeting point for friends or lovers, always has been, always will be! Ah, the eternal magic of Rome...)
